Florida Requirements
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aide (HHA)
According to FL Board of Nursing, All CNAs must complete a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training each calendar year. Every 2 years, in-service training hours shall include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
- HIV/AIDS
- Domestic Violence
- Medical Record Documentation and Legal Aspects Appropriate to Nursing Assistants
- Resident Rights
- Communication with cognitively impaired clients
- CPR skills
- Medical Error Prevention and Safety
Note: For candidates certified during the calendar year, the minimum in-service hours required shall be prorated at the rate of 1.0 hours per month from the month of initial certification to the end of the calendar year.
According to Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, all home health aides employed by home health agencies and nurse registries must complete an HIV/AIDS training course. They also are required to obtain and maintain a current certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Home health aides employed by Medicare and Medicaid home health agencies are required to have a total of 12 hours of in-service training during each 12-month period (this can be a calendar year or based on the date of hire). The HIV/AIDS training and CPR training may be counted toward meeting the 12 hours of in-service training.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN)
All RNs (including CNS and ARNP) and LPNs are required to complete 24 hours of appropriate continuing education (CE) during each renewal period, including two (2) hours relating to prevention of medical errors. In addition to these 24 hours of general CE, each RN and LPN must complete two (2) hours of domestic violence CE every third renewal for a total of 26 hours.

Phlebotomy Technician
If you completed your National Certification Exam with the National Healthcare Association (NHA), the following CEUs are required.
NHA Continuing Education Program
Once you are certified (unless you’re a Certified Pharmacy Tech), you must earn 10 Continuing Education (CE) credits every two years to keep your certification current.
